Finding Voice:
1. Email Devin (devinkozdogu@gmail.com) & Heather (hrenfro@gmail.com) the web address for your blog.
2. Post your write-up comparing poetry with poetic language (the homework that was due 1/26/07). If you have trouble accessing your blog or posting, please contact me.
3. Post a piece of poetry or poetic language (something literary) that reflects or represents your own personal VOICE. It can be something you wrote if you like. (Reread over "How You Sound??" by Amiri Baraka if you need to think more about voice).
4. Metacognition & Writing:
a. List the VERY specific things you did well (read comments).
b. List the VERY specific things you need to improve on (read comments, look at corrections).
c. Diagnose the source of the problem for each item on your list of things to improve on (e.g. "I didn't know how to quote passages over three lines in length."; "I don't know what it means to connect back to the thesis."; "I procrastinated and didn't get a chance to edit."; "I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'analyze' in class or on my feedback."). Then propose solutions to these problems (e.g. "Now that I know what is expected after a quote I will change my writing style. In addition, I plan to list my areas of improvement on my next essay prompt so that I will remember to address those issues.").

Theft Alert! Lock Up Your Lockers!!!
Due to the recent number of thefts at Eastside, please remember to always lock your lockers and keep your backpacks and other belongings in a safe and secure area.
Also, there are some new procedures that we must follow due to this security risk.
- The driveway gates will be closed and locked every evening at 7:00pm. Teachers who are on campus after 6:30pm should probably move their cars to the front of the school prior to the 7:00pm deadline.
- The Administration building will continue to be locked at 5:30pm. No students are allowed in the building except the resource students working with Meredith. The resource students should not let other students in the building as they exit.
- The exit gate between the Administration building and rooms 112-114 will be the only gate left open while students are still on campus. Hopefully there is enough traffic that staff will see any strangers enter that should not be on campus. The exit gates on the cafeteria side of the Administration building should never be left propped open. If you see it open please close it.
- Students whose locks were taken may get new locks for a $10 deposit. They lose their initial deposit on the stolen lock as it should not have been left unlocked.
- Lockers without a lock will be emptied and a lock will be placed on the locker so it cannot be used.
- Students must always lock their lockers.
- Ex-students are also not allowed on campus. This does not include alumni.
Homework Due Friday 1/26
1. Set up a Gmail account using the email invitation from Devin. Don't forget, try to be professional about what your email looks like. Think about what college professors might like to see. You will need this Gmail account to create your blog on Friday.
2. Think back over what was discussed in class today. Prepare a half-page written response to the following questions: What is poetic language? How is it different from poetry?
3. If you haven't do so already, please return or pay for your Frankenstein or Outside Reading books.
